Grooveeffect
Grooveeffect is an urban/indie culture web site dedicated to curating the best in emerging style, music, and trends, and is ranked in the Top 20 music blogs worldwide by Alexa. Originally launched in late 2004 as a small web store, it was re-launched in late 2005 as a content site and quickly grew to be one of the leading urban/indie lifestyle sites on the web, reaching up to 100K unique visitors per month.
The site was founded by myself and Ivy Rashid, who is an accomplished trendspotter in her own right. She has studied fashion merchandising in both Chicago and San Francisco, and has worked with a variety of fashion and entertainment companies over the past six years, including online merchandising for major broadcast television (Queer Eye, Project Runway, The Hills, Will & Grace) and online fashion media (Glam Media, StyleMaven).
Since launch, we've had a variety of staff writers and contributors come through, and recently undertook a major redesign led by UK based agency Made by Six.
Beyond the content, my major responsibilities for the site include front and back end development - everything from the xHTML/CSS and JavaScript UI, the content managed backend, LAMP server admin, and various SEO features. To be friendly to our writers, the content management system has been optimized to allow even novices to dynamically manage additional features such as the image carousel, page color schemes, and lightbox photo/video popups.
